Brittany D. - Ambling resident, rising star!
I’m in my second year of college and studying music performance. I chose
to live in an apartment because I’m never far from the campus music facility
where I practice and attend class. I’m admittedly very focused
on my future, but living on campus was a distraction in various ways. Now,
living off campus, I have my own space away from school, so I can study when I need
to and also enjoy interacting with students of all different types. My parents
love it because they know I’m safe in the hands of a caring office staff that
is equipped with a responsive maintenance team as well. I love it too - I’m
able to feel like a real adult with my own place! It’s like a stepping
stone into the real world. I have my own responsibilities and yet the support
and assistance to live comfortably so that I’ll succeed as a student.
Kristen P. - Ambling resident, future health and fitness expert!
I’m a busy college sophomore, studying both physical education and health.
I needed to find my own dedicated space, off campus, so I could focus on studying
and getting my work done efficiently. Having an apartment gives me that.
I’ve also found the freedom and extra space give me a more positive outlook
and attitude. Now I’m doing great in school, cooking, paying bills and
picking up my mail. My parents really like how I’ve become more personally
responsible. They also appreciate my having a private bedroom, nearby parking,
and an individual lease that’s not hinged to my roommates who all have their
own leases as well. The accommodations here are really the best around!
At the top of my list are the tanning bed and the swimming pool. When it’s
warm outside, sunbathing at the pool deck makes you feel like you’re on vacation.
Javoris H. - Ambling Resident, Sports Medicine Therapist
My major in school is fitness and sports medicine, so it’s no surprise I’m
an active guy. I needed a tight knit community that would support my academic objectives
and also encourage my hobbies - baseball, basketball, eating and hanging with friends.
Living on my own I’ve found it all. I’ve gotten to know so many
new people – some of whom now feel like family! A genuinely caring staff
takes it one step further. They do their best to provide residents with activities
and information to keep everyone involved and informed. I know my Mom really appreciates
that. College is shaping up to be a great learning experience on many different
levels. I love my studies but my lifestyle also teaches me by preparing me
to be independent, to take care of bills on time and to really just survive as a
young adult.
Blair B. - Ambling Resident, College Athlete and Future Athletic Trainer
Playing football on a scholarship, I have to maintain good grades. That means
I need a home where I can concentrate on my studies. With my own private bedroom,
I’ve been able to maintain my focus on school…and that makes my parents
proud. But on the flip side of things, whenever I want to interact with others,
I just go to the clubhouse and rent movies and games (for free!) and enjoy my down
time. The relationships I’ve built with the other students and the staff here,
along with the amenities and atmosphere are my favorite aspects of living on my
own. My college experience is definitely simplified. I’m always
just a few steps from everything campus has to offer and I’ve acquired an
enhanced sense of responsibility in life and also academically.
Patti E. - Ambling parent, proud mother
The dormitory was fine for our daughter’s underclassman experience, but Katy’s
always been a sensible young lady and she began to grumble about needing more quiet
and privacy. She’d also grown weary of the dining hall and wanted to
try her hand at cooking. After some research, we chose an apartment off-campus
and couldn’t have imagined a better experience.
The location was ideal, actually a faster trip to campus than the dormitory.
As parents, we really liked how an individual lease simplified our budgeting.
Initially we thought the costs would be higher, but as it turned out, they were
offset by Katy’s happiness and reduced food expenses…. not to mention
we could stay with her on visits in lieu of expensive hotel rooms!
In many ways I was more comfortable with her living in an apartment than the dorms
because she had more control over things. It allowed Katy to focus on her academics
and build strong relationships with friends. She learned quickly about living
with students who have different attitudes toward privacy, cleanliness and socializing.
She learned to budget, shop for groceries, ride the bus, and to juggle studying
with relaxing. Her exposure to the real world produced a healthy realization of
how fortunate her life has been. Best of all, she discovered she loves to cook and
now knows 30 new ways to make pasta!
